I was born in Rimini (Italy) – 1967, August 10th. I always lived in Segrate (Milan) until july 2004 when I moved to Germany.
 

My work experience
  • Since July 2004 I am employed as a videogame programmer at Crytek GmbH (developer of Far Cry), initially located in Coburg, a nice and quiet town in the north of Bavaria, and now in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
    I have worked on AI (artificial intelligence) and game code on Crysis. I'm using C++ and Lua languages.
  • I have worked with I-Per Media (1996/98). I have developed CD-Rom multimedia titles, composed soundtracks and sound FX design, web developing and web sound design/engineering. I have also worked as a system administrator in a Macintosh/PC network environment.
  • In 1998, I have written two articles about sound and music usage on the web, for the magazine Internet News (now Internet.pro). See my published articles below.
  • I have worked at Si.Ge.Da., consulting company (database programming in Clipper and C - 1990/91).
My education and other info
diploma:   Computer science at I.T.I.S. Feltrinelli (Milan).
Vote: 56/60.
degree:   Computer science,  at Università degli Studi di Milano.

The title of my thesis - translated in english - is Development of an application for audio signal coding and decoding according to Mpeg-2 Audio standard. The application has been written in C (about 11000 lines) and it is a codec for surround audio signal in 5.1 format, according to the MPEG-2 Backward Compatible audio format, which at that time was under research.
The project has been developed for the Centro Ricerche RAI in Turin, Italy. You can take a look at a briefing of my thesis here (warning: italian language).

published articles:  
  • "Intra-Channel Prediction: A New Tool for the Subband Coding of High-Quality Audio" (in cooperation with Giorgio Dimino), for the Audio Engineering Society 100th Convention, which took place in Copenhagen, 1996 (paper #4198).
  • "L'importanza di suoni e rumori" and "Dal pop al rock tra autori e cantanti", ("The importance of sounds and noises" and "From pop to rock among authors and singers") for the magazine Internet News (now Internet.pro), june 1998
other activities:   I have been coordinator of a thesis about artificial intelligence in videogames  at Università di Informatica di Milano. More in detail, the thesis is about the possibilities of expanding the concept of finite state machines in videogame programming.

 

other knowledges:  
  • Adobe Photoshop: I have worked with it for years. Now it is the main tool in my photography processing workflow.
  • Multimedia authoring: Macromedia Director 6 and Lingo language.
  • Audio and music: I have used many softwares and now I'm stable on Cubase 4 and Cool Edit. I mostly use software instruments (NI Kontakt 2, Musiclab Realguitar, FXpansion BFD), I also own some hardware gear (Kurzweil K2600R, Roland D-70, Roland D-20, Akai S-2000, and a white Fender Squier Stratocaster guitar, model from early 80s).
  • I have some experience in using DSP and mixer units. I mixed the whole second album by Mitici Farej - my former band.
my interests and hobbies:   I played keyboard in a band called Mitici Farej - genre rock/pop. I'm currently recording music on my own.

My influences in music: Genesis, Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, the so called "new wave" in the early 80's.

My readings: science fiction, biographies, science, comics of various genres: Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), David Mack (Kabuki), Frank Miller (Batman: Dark Knight Returns, Ronin, Sin City).

I am also a fan of manga and anime. I like all the movies by Hayao Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon, and all that is about Ghost In the Shell,  Alita, Akira, Sanctuary, Gundam, Gasaraki, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, and others.
