06.Daimyo.Residence * Daimyo Resifence
This model was reproduced based mainly on three sources: illustrations in the Iyo-dono yashiki sashi-zu (Illustrations of the mansion of the 'Governor of Iyo' ) in the possession of the Ikeda family archives at Okayama University; the Edo-zu byobu (Screens of Edo) in the collection of the National Museum of japanese History; and the Kora Konen oboegaki (Memorandum of Kora konen), in the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library. * 3456 x 1951 * (1.33MB)

08.Chonin.Area * Chonin area
This model depicts a section of the chonin area (townspeople) north of the Nihonbashi Bridge during the early Edo period. The surface area represented by this model is roughly equivalent to that occupied by Matsudaira Tadamasa's upper residence.
A comparison of the two models shows that the daimyo compounds were spacious and contained many buildings, while townspeople lived in cramped quarters. * 3504 x 1692 * (1.28MB)
