The Flame Of Freedom sculpture was donated by the City of Paris as part of France Year in Japan (1998) to commemorate friendly relations between Japan and France. The sculpture was installed in November 2001 in the Center Promenade. The sculpture is made of aluminum and bronze covered in gold leaf and rises 27 meters. Modern sculptor Marc Coutelier won the commission through a competition.
